The Promise of the Day
It is Festival Day. In a town not too far away, they are celebrating what I thought was Dogs and Draughts but which is really Pooches and Pints. No--wait--it is Paws and Pints. Anyway, there should be a lot of drunken dogs. In my own hometown, there is a Festival of Chotchkie. In a little bit I will make my way downtown and join the hoi-poloi.
I await my new Leica and continue to look for lenses that I can afford. I missed one on an auction yesterday that sold for five or six hundred dollars under the going rate. I got distracted and forgot about it. I was sick when I came back to look. I will continue to be prudent, though, and not spend the extra money.
I went to sign the contract committing myself to the tree cutting company yesterday morning, and on my way into the building, I saw a sign advertising that they were hiring experienced tree trimmers, so I thought I'd have a little fun. When I entered the building, an older woman sitting behind a desk asked if she could help me.
"Well, I saw your sign out front. I don't really have any experience, but I am a fast learner and I think I am still in pretty good shape."
She just looked at me dumbly.
"Are you hiring?"
It was as if I were speaking a foreign language to her. I eventually had to tell her I was kidding, but I wish I would have asked what the wages would be. Times are tough for guys like me. It is difficult to find any gainful employment.
I thought of a project I would like to do today. "The Sadness of a Beautiful Woman." Beautiful Women, really. I want to photograph women after a hard night. Oh, and I think all women are beautiful just as I find the opposite true of men.
Now I must ready myself for the many challenges of the day. There is much promise there. I need to fulfill at least some of it.
