I went to Costco with my mother a bit ago, and I bought a new brand of coffee just to see. Yuck. I've had a bad cup of coffee for days now. It is funny how it affects the morning. I'm drinking it, but I don't like it. I can't wait until I have used up all of those beans. I keep thinking of those old commercials where a man is mad because his wife can't make a good cup of coffee. I haven't had a commercial can of ground coffee for years, no Folgers, no Maxwell House. I have a friend who still drinks it. I should try it just to see out of curiosity. I don't want to be a snob. I used to buy Cafe Bustelo for brewing. It was good, as I remember, but when I checked last, it was almost as expensive as buying another brand's beans. Not much of a savings there.
My mother keeps little packets of instant coffee around and will just heat up some water and make a cup in the middle of the day. I think it is the same one as in this commercial. I tried it a few times, and I will say it is not the best cup of coffee in the world but it isn't as bad as the cup I'm drinking now.
You can tell I have nothing really to tell you. Rather, I'm trying not to report the troubles of my life and times. Here's the thing, though. . . I want to enjoy something. I need a relaxing night, and there is a "candlelight" series at the local museum. Next week they will have a string quartet perform Vivaldi's Four Seasons. The concert will last one hour. I want to go, but it doesn't start until 8:30. Were it earlier in the evening, as some of their concerts are, I might chance leaving mom for a bit, but I don't trust leaving her late. Besides, it is their most expensive concert ticket, double what some of them are. I know what everyone is going to tell me--"Get someone to sit with your mother and go!" I hear you.
There you go--troubles. I can't seem to get away from them, and they are really much worse than I report. I look around trying to find something to distract me, but all I have is what you can read in the news and opinion papers.
I did watch another lovely video on Viet Nam travels, but I won't bother you with it anymore.
I have been invited to lunch with my former secretary and colleagues. Office manager, I mean. There's a little ray of sunshine.
And here's some jumpin' jive to get you started. A better way to start the day.
