Paris Bound

We booked our trip to Paris, and it is soon.  We will be there just after autumn falls.  It was an impulsive decision.  I said "Paris" and Ili began researching flights.  She found some bad ones which caused me to search out of frustration.  Once I found some good ones, there was only one thing to do.

I was tricked.

A week in Paris isn't enough, but it will be something.  There are sites to see, of course, but mostly there are streets to be walked and cafes to be sampled.  I have just started YouTube Paris and Google Paris preparations.  I will get to the bookstore this week.  We don't have much time.

We still haven't booked a place to stay, so any suggestions. . . .

We watched the last installment of "Serengeti" last night then I had bad, violent dreams.  I woke up thinking about work and felt I was abandoning my job.  I guess guilt is normal.

I will go now and do a bit of research.  Or I will try to brush up on my college French.

Oh. . . and we will be there during Fashion Week.  Oo-la-la.

I have always rented (in Paris) through these people. You guys might not like apartments and prefer hotels but these places are so nice. And lovely to be able to bring home some cheese, baguettes and wine and hang ...

My brother will be there as well around that time.

I will send some foodie recommendations as well. My friend Ute - who ran the foodie tour business has moved to Berlin but her knowledge (and everything I wrote down after two years with her) is solid. Just in case you want to take advantage of some insider stuff.

    Ok. I'm officially jealous.

    1. Wow! Thank you. I will look forward to the food recs.

And really, the only reason I'm going is to make others jealous :)

Chicagoan friends stayed there a few weeks ago in august and they liked it. The street is nice and quiet there is a charming café "le temps des cerises" on the other side of the street. I hope we'll meet when you'll be there

  3. and then there is an interesting thing to do : take a train from Gare de Lyon station, not very far from the hotel I told you, and go to Moret sur loing, 45 minutes from Paris (there are trains frequently) which is an absolutely charming medieval city where Sisley the impressionist painter lived. There is also a large Francis Bacon's exhibition in Paris at the Pompidou Centre and you have to book your tickets online. And also an exhibition on Leonardo da Vinci at the Louvre (it is also better to book your ticket on line)

  4. Ok here it goes - most of this stuff is in the Marais -

    Chocolatier:

Don't waste your time anywhere else - go here. You will bring back little tins of chocolates, gels or caramels for everyone including yourself and be very sad when they are gone.

It is out of the way - not touristy - you'll walk up the hill past most of the commercial stuff to this jewel box of a shop. I literally blushed tasting my first passion fruit caramel.

If you had more time for chocolate I'd say make a trip to Alain Ducasse near the Bastille. BUT go to Jacques place...

    L'As du Fallafel
    34 rue des Rosiers

The fallafel sandwich is so good -my niece and I discussed potentially choosing this as our last meal if we were going down. Nice to sit in and have a Maccabee or two.

An entirely "real" creperie. Delicious both the savory and sweet - highly recommend for an inexpensive delicious lunch/dinner.

    https://www.discoverwalks.com/blog/5-reasons-to-visit-le-marche-des-enfants-rouges-in-paris/

Le marche des-enfants-rouges offers so many different delicacies - one of our favorites was the Moroccan food. But a wonder to just wander through - pick up cheese etc to take back to eat at the apartment.

Absolutely fantastic dinner here - small place, locals. Good value. You'd like it I'm pretty sure.

Out of the Marais in the Montparnasse area is Cafe De la Rotonde - friends of mine who live in Paris (across the street from the restaurant) took me here because of my Picasso obsession - we sat at a table with seats that are crushed red velvet. It may be a "touristy" thing - I don't know. We walked in and got treated like royalty because of who they were - the food was delicious. They bought so it might - probably is expensive. :)

Ok - that's it for now. I have more to offer - I'll post some bakeries etc.

Did I tell you I'm officially REALLY JEALOUS. Sigh .
